NACC Personal Support Worker (PSW) DE 2022 Certificate Program

Approved as a vocational program under the Ontario Career Colleges Act, 2005.
The NACC Personal Support Worker DE 2022 Program is approved by the Ministry of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security and follows the National Association of Career Colleges (NACC) curriculum standards.
The NACC Personal Support Worker (PSW) Certificate Program prepares students to provide compassionate care and support to individuals experiencing the effects of aging, illness, injury, disability, or cognitive impairment.
Students develop the knowledge, practical skills, and professional competencies required to work in long-term care homes, hospitals, retirement residences, community agencies, and home care settings.
This ministry-approved program combines online instructor-led learning, practical training, and supervised clinical placements to prepare graduates for employment in Ontario’s healthcare sector.Additionally, it includes practical components like clinical placements and simulations to prepare students for real-world scenarios.

- Theory Training: 359 Hours
- Practical Training: 41 Hours
- Clinical Placement: 300 Hours
Total Program Hours: 700 Hours

Students will study:
- PSW Foundations
- Safety and Mobility
- Body Systems
- Assisting with Personal Hygiene
- Abuse and Neglect
- Household Management, Nutrition and Hydration
- Care Planning, Restorative Care, Documentation and Working in the Community
- Assisting the Family, Growth and Development
- Assisting the Dying Person
- Assisting with Medications
- Cognitive and Mental Health Issues and Brain Injuries
- Health Conditions
- Gentle Persuasive Approaches in Dementia Care
- Clinical Placement (Facility)
- Clinical Placement (Community)
Program Duration
- Total Program Hours: 700
- Program Length: Approximately 24–31 Weeks
- Hybrid Delivery Format
- Includes 300 Hours of Clinical Placement
Admission Requirements
Applicants must meet ONE of the following:
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent
OR
- Successfully complete the Wonderlic Scholastic Level Exam with a minimum score of 11
English Language Requirements
If English is not the applicant’s first language, one of the following must be provided:
- IELTS: Minimum 5.5 overall with no band below 5.5
- TOEFL iBT: Overall score of 80
- CAEL: Minimum 60
- CELPIP General: Score of 7
- Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB): Level 7 in each strand
- Duolingo English Test: Minimum score of 95
- Pearson PTE Academic: Minimum score of 46
- NACC Written Entrance Exam: Passing score of 60
- Two years of full-time post-secondary education completed in English
Graduation Requirements
To graduate, students must successfully complete all required theory, practical, and clinical placement components of the program and satisfy all academic and placement requirements established by ABC Access Business College and the NACC curriculum standards.
Better Jobs Ontario Funding
Eligible Ontario residents may qualify for funding through the Better Jobs Ontario program.
Funding may help cover:
- Tuition
- Books and supplies
- Transportation
- Living expenses (where applicable)
- Childcare support (where applicable)
Funding approval is determined by the Government of Ontario.
