Cyber Security and Network Administrator Diploma Program

Build the technical expertise to protect digital systems and manage modern IT infrastructure in today’s rapidly evolving technology landscape.

Approved as a vocational program under the Ontario Career Colleges Act, 2005.

This well-structured program prepares students for hybrid roles that combine network administration with cybersecurity practices. Graduates develop the practical knowledge required to design, install, maintain, and secure IT infrastructure including Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs), servers, and cloud environments.

Students gain hands-on experience with industry-relevant tools, operating systems, and security technologies while learning how to maintain system uptime, protect sensitive data, and respond to cybersecurity threats.

Network administrators and cybersecurity professionals are employed in corporate IT departments, government agencies, healthcare institutions, financial organizations, technology companies, and managed service providers.

Main responsibilities

Cyber Security and Network Administrators perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Install, configure and maintain routers, switches, servers, firewalls and related hardware infrastructure.
  • Design and maintain Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs), and cloud environments.
  • Implement security measures such as antivirus software, firewalls, intrusion detection systems (IDS), and Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).
  • Monitor networks for vulnerabilities and analyze system performance.
  • Manage data backups, disaster recovery models, and system patching.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity issues, server failures, printer problems and hardware concerns.
  • Provide end-user technical support and maintain Active Directory environments.
  • Configure hardware for deployment and maintain PC and network security systems.
  • Maintain DNS services, TCP/IP configurations, and email applications such as Exchange.
  • Educate users on cybersecurity best practices, including phishing awareness and credential management.

Knowledge and Skills Acquired

Graduates develop knowledge and practical skills in:

  • Configuration of hardware for customer deployment
  • IT support and hardware troubleshooting
  • Windows operating systems and server environments
  • Networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, LAN/WAN
  • Cisco networking fundamentals
  • Exchange and email systems
  • PC and network security, spyware and antivirus applications
  • Linux administration and firewall configuration
  • Disaster recovery planning and backup/restore maintenance
  • Active Directory management
  • Cloud and virtualized environments
  • Basic scripting and automation

Employment requirements

  • Completion of secondary school is required.
  • Completion of a diploma program in cyber security, networking or information technology is typically required by employers.
  • Industry certifications and practical experience may enhance employment opportunities.

Additional information

Progression to senior roles such as Network Architect, Security Consultant, or IT Manager is possible with experience and additional certifications.

The demand for cybersecurity and network administration professionals remains strong across finance, healthcare, government and technology sectors.

Entry-level graduates often begin in IT support, junior network administration or network operations roles.
